Next Big Thing

I’d like to thank Heidi Ruby Miller for inviting me to participate in Week 16 of the Next Big Thing Blog Hop. Please take a moment to read her post, and Jason Jack Miller’s post.

Ten Interview Questions for The Next Big Thing:

What is the working title of your book? Sin Conductor.

Where did the idea come from for the book? Well, back during the story’s genesis I was known for doing work-related horror stories–because there’s nothing more horrifying to me than the typical work environment. Anyway, I was involved in some discussion with other people who had bad job experiences, a sort of “who’s more grizzled” thing, and man these guys had some crazy stories. So I endeavored to incorporate these elements into a story I was doing for Leg Sex Magazine.

What genre does your book fall under? Erotic horror.

Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?
Ben Foster was Willis Lowry

Chulpan Khamatova as Dusyanna

Peter Stormare as Henri

Gerald Auger as Chickahominy

Sonja Sohn as Brittanica Amend

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book? If sin were a transmissible disease of the soul, and you discovered that by means of reincarnation you were one of the original carriers, would you break the chain if you could?

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency? This book was originally to be published by Two Backed Books, but that imprint no longer exists, so now it will be released by Raw Dog Screaming Press.
How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript? Well, it was a short story first. Then we felt it should be a novelette, then a novella. Now we’re pushing it into the full-length novel range. The overall journey has taken eleven years, if you can believe it.

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre? Chuck Palahniuk’s Choke might be the closest product out there. Sin Conductor is the hypercarnivorous apex predator of erotic horror, or erotic literature in general, so a comparison is difficult.

Who or What inspired you to write this book? An unbidden desire unfurled in the most peculiar depths of my inner darkness, one salivating at the opportunity to discover just how “messed up” I could be–and not in some silly exhibitionist sense. Even more than that, could I at the pinnacle of my moral deprivation, create something of beauty? Something touching? I like to think the answer has been a resounding “yes.”

What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest? This novel is constructed in my “book as DVD” format, which has been expanded this time around to include running “commentary” from the “director” and the “cast” along the bottom of the pages. There are also cast and crew interviews, a featurette on the effects used–essentially a short story concerning the creation of demons–and plenty of deleted scenes (short stories and novelettes) about the minor characters.

The cover art for Sin Conductor is provided by the insanely talented Bob Siddoway. You can investigate his work further at http://mistabobby.deviantart.com/

  1. I, too, like the idea of a book as DVD. And you choice of Peter Stormare & Gerald Auger as potential cast made me all the more interested in the book. They’re both quirky, character actor types. BTW, I was tagged in TNBT blog hop by Jennifer Allis Provost who also tagged Heidi Ruby Miller. By blog hopping I found you!
